About the team

 

At Peter Mac, the EMR Optimisation team supports the safe, efficient and meaningful use of the Parkville EMR by staff, patients and carers. The team delivers EMR education, acts as a change agent and translator, supports adoption of the system (including for research and analytics), provides digital leadership, and actively enables quality improvement EMR enhancement projects using a learning health systems approach of harnessing data for insights, system co-design and continuous evaluation post implementation. Embedded within Peter Mac, the team also maintains strong collaborative relationships with precinct partners and the Parkville EMR team.

 

About the role

 

The Director of EMR Optimisation leads the strategic operation and continuous improvement of the EMR system at Peter Mac. This role leverages the EMR to enhance care quality, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability by collaborating across clinical, operational, and digital teams. The Director guides EMR optimisation aligned with Peter Mac's strategic goals, leading the team to provide user-centered support from staff onboarding to clinical practice embedding.

 

Beyond Peter Mac, the Director serves as a senior representative in the Parkville Precinct and broader digital health community, making high-level decisions through robust governance and strategic collaboration. This outward-facing role strengthens partnerships, fosters innovation, and contributes to a cohesive digital health ecosystem.

 

As a people leader, the Director manages and develops a high-performing team, overseeing business-as-usual operations, setting priorities, and ensuring responsive organizational support. The role includes building positive team culture, promoting continuous learning, providing coaching and performance management, and developing retention strategies. Financial responsibilities include managing EMR-related cost centres and budget oversight.

 

This is an fixed term (12 month) position, covering parental leave, based at Peter Mac Melbourne campus, with the opportunity for flexible working arrangements.

Position Summary

The Parkville Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is a world-class system shared by Peter Mac, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Women's Hospital and The Royal Children's Hospital to support high-quality, seamless healthcare and improve health outcomes for Victorians. The EMR is used by more than 15,000 clinicians and staff across the four health services and is delivered in partnership with Epic, a global leader in health information technology.
