Data Officer - ANZ Sarcoma Association

  • 12-month, fixed-term, part-time position
  • 30.4 hours per fortnight (0.4FTE)
  • HS2 - HS21: $1,027.20 - $1,135.568

The Data Officer will be responsible for performing tasks to support the data management activities of the Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association’s Sarcoma Clinical Database. Tasks include collection of clinical data from the Hospital electronic medical records and accurate data entry into the Sarcoma Clinical Database. maintenance of current records to ensure follow up and treatment information is up to date. Knowledge of medical (oncological) terminology, the ability to interpret medical records for information and experience using electronic medical records is highly desired. 

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience with data entry into registries/databases or similar
  • Comprehension of medical terminology, with the ability to interpret medical records for required information
  • Proficient computer skills including use of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing packages
  • Accurate data entry with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work as a team member or autonomously as required
  • Highly organised, methodical worker with the ability to prioritise work
  • Able to work independently, be self-directed and capable of working to deadlines
  • Strong communication, written and verbal skills
     

Desireable Requirements:

  • Previous experience using an electronic medical record system
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and oncology
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health science or similar discipline
  • Understanding of Patient Privacy requirements

Position Summary

Key Accountabilities

1. Sarcoma Clinical Database Activities • Accurately enter data into the Australian Comprehensive Cancer Outcomes and Research Database (ACCORD) or equivalent
• Efficiently and accurately collect clinical and demographic data from medical records, pathology reports and radiology reports for entry into database
• Manage and ensure the timely collection of new patient data and follow-up data at regular intervals
• Identify and address any issues that arise that may delay data entry
• Maintain reliable records of activities and tasks associated with database
• Generate regular reports including all new patients who meet the database inclusion criteria using Epic electronic medical records system
2. Support of database projects and data cleaning • Assist in data cleaning/ validation for single and multi-site database projects
• Identify and track missing information required for data entry and follow up with entry of subsequent results 
• Undertake self-audits to improve accuracy and data quality
• Provide regular detailed feedback regarding database status and data quality issues to study team

• Work effectively as part of the ANZSA team including contribution to team meetings
• Actively participate in the annual Sarcoma Clinical Database workshop.
• Assist in the testing of database upgrades as needed
• Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering to privacy and health information handling protocols.
