The Chief Financial Officer division at Peter Mac includes finance, commercial finance, procurement, finance systems, project management and infrastructure and capital.  We take pride in leading the financial operations that support our hospital's mission of enabling innovative cancer research and transforming lives.

 

About the role

 

As the Commercial Finance Partner, Research you will act as the interface between finance and operational managers and researchers, to ensure sound financial management, accurate budgeting/planning and forecasting, and delivery of high-quality financial reports and key business initiatives. 


This is a stakeholder-facing, transactional role, but will also see you provide financial analysis to drive operational performance and deliver commercial outcomes within the research division.

About you

 

You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who genuinely enjoys working closely with stakeholders and is able to build strong working relationships across a diverse range of people.


You’ll bring with you:

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Accounting/Commerce, and membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA) and/or Certified Practising Accountants of Australia (CPA)
  • Demonstrated ability in the provision of financial analysis that drives operation performance and deliver commercial outcomes
  • Experience developing accurate budgets, forecasts and high-quality reports
  • Proven capability to analyse data, prepare recommendations and communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • An understanding of research sector budgeting and operations and provision of financial support within complex organisations would be highly desirable

Essential Requirements

1. Financial Performance Reporting

  • Drive optimal financial decision- making through the provision of timely, accurate and useful information to management.
  • Manage the end-to-end budget process, including:
    •     Adherence to Annual Budget Guidelines and timelines;
    •     Managing stakeholders to ensure timely completion of budgets;
    •     Providing analytics on financial and operational changes; 
    •     Identifying budget risks and mitigations. 
  • Manage the month end reporting processes to ensure accurate results and the provision of high quality financial information to drive operational performance.
  • Monitor the impact of operational activities on financial performance and variance from budget with a focus on emerging trends and risks.
  • Deliver regular forecasting based on trend analysis providing an independent, organisational view.
  • Provision of timely and accurate reporting to Operational Directors and Cost Centre Managers that informs decision making.
  • Provision of high quality financial analysis and commentary to assist with annual budget development, forecasting and month end reporting.
  • Timely development and completion of the annual budget.
  • Preparation of month-end journals and other ad hoc journals as necessary.
  • Performance of ad-hoc analysis as required.

2. Finance Subject-Matter Expert

  • Provide financial insight and advice to Executive to optimise financial performance.
  • Build links between finance and operational functions.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls and oversight of financial resources. 
  • Drive continuous improvement of organisational processes, procedures, systems and reporting.
  • Have an understanding of operational changes and their financial impacts.
  • Evidence of leading continuous improvements in organisational processes, procedures, systems and reporting.
  • Trusted financial adviser, supporting business priorities and delivering commercial insights to influence key operational and strategic decisions.
  • Be the conduit between the operational team and the wider Finance Division. For instance, coordinating with AP/AR teams as needed.
