- 12-month fixed term, full time position

About the team
The Business Intelligence and Analytics team operates the hospital's Azure-based data warehouse and analytics platform, which provides management reporting and performance insights across the organization. The team supports strategic decision-making and operational performance management for hospital leadership and department managers.
About the role
This role reports to the Manager of Business Intelligence and Analytics and will contribute to the design of data solutions, implementing pipelines, extending dimensional models, and developing reporting solutions. You'll work alongside an experienced data developer, and collaborate with data analysts to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions, with the judgment to flag when exceptions or improvements make sense.
About you
You are someone that is conceptually strong who can understand our data architecture, work semi-independently on implementation, and bring thoughtful questions and suggestions when something could be improved.
You'll bring with you:
- Strong experience with Microsoft BI stack: SQL Server (T-SQL, query optimization), SSAS (tabular/multidimensional models), SSIS, Power BI
- Azure Data Factory: designing and implementing data pipelines, orchestration, and integration patterns
- Designing and implementing database systems, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data integration solutions
- Experience maintaining and extending existing OLAP cubes and dimensional data models
- Knowledge of performance tuning and monitoring across data pipelines and models (e.g. query plans, DAX optimisation, partitioning)
- Experience collaborating on enterprise data platforms and semantic layer design
- Understanding of data lifecycle management, including lineage, retention, and auditability
- End-to-end data delivery: development, testing, deployment, and version control (Git)
- Strong conceptual understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and BI design patterns
- Ability to provide input into data solutions, from business requirement to designing the technical approach
- Proactive problem-solving: identify issues, propose solutions, and challenge existing approaches when appropriate
- Ability to translate analyst requirements into technical solutions and troubleshoot data issues
- Strong communication skills for working with non-technical stakeholders (data analysts, managers)
- Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and manage priorities
- Experience with documentation tools (Confluence or similar)
- Attention to detail and commitment to data quality

Position Summary
The Business Intelligence and Analytics team operates the hospital's Azure-based data warehouse and analytics platform, which provides management reporting and performance insights across the organization. The team supports strategic decision-making and operational performance management for hospital leadership and department managers.
The role offers the chance to work with rich clinical and operational datasets where your solutions directly impact patient care quality and hospital performance - it's technically challenging work that matters.
With the hospital's EPIC EMR now operational, we're continuously expanding our data coverage and analytical capabilities to support more sophisticated decision-making across the hospital. This is primarily a development role (80%) with some maintenance responsibilities (20%). We're actively modernizing our platform (transitioning from SSIS to Azure Data Factory, optimizing our tabular models) so there's opportunity to work with both established and emerging technologies.
