Biomedical Technologist Grade 1

  • Casual position available (parental leave coverage)
  • Grade 1: BT20 - BT23 ($32.74 to $35.41 per hour + applicable casual loading)

 

About the role

 

You will provide biomedical technical support across a range of services for the Peter Mac Cancer Centre, primarily at its VCCC campus (and other sites as required). To ensure quality assurance and safety of general medical devices as well as specialised equipment used for brachytherapy and radiation dosimetry.

Duties include the repair and preventive maintenance of electrical, electronic and scientific equipment; equipment calibration; and participation in design and development projects. Please note that some equipment requires special lifting procedures.

 

About you

 

You will have good communication skills with a demonstratable ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

 

You'll bring with you:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science / Engineering 
  • Some experience working with medical devices 
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and TGA framework 
  • Good problem solving and decision-making ability 
  • Good knowledge of electronics repair 
  • Ability to document and report on work 
  • Flexibility to participate in a variety of Biomedical Engineering work and  activities, including out of hours duties, early, late and weekend shifts, on call roster and emergency shifts

1. Participates actively in all Biomedical Services and Activities

  • Engages in core and specialised clinical services under the direction of a supervising engineer
  • Proactively assists senior Engineers with biomedical projects
  • Engages in full range of technical services for medical devices. Acceptance, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and disposal of medical equipment.
  • Maintains traceability and transparency on all works performed using medical device database.
  • Site wide Electrical safety testing of Medical devices and site wide Electrical area testing
  • Observes and assists supervising engineer with equipment related technical and scientific support consultation and advice problem solving and user support
  • Participates in commissioning team under the direction of a supervising engineer
  • Assists Chief Engineer in market and new technologies research
  • Follows department guidelines and training to complete all assigned tasks

2. Works Effectively

  • Follows department guidelines on record keeping and storage of service related documents.
  • Follows work flows as supervised by Chief engineer on all works carried out in the biomedical engineering workshop.
  • Works with awareness and exercises sound judgement, including seeking help when required/recognising own limitations
  • Maintains quality requirements and actively seeks to improve quality

3. Equipment Handling

  • Handles biomed equipment with care
  • Uses test equipment appropriately
  • Reports loss or damage to equipment
  • Updates equipment database as required

4. Contributes positively to team, department and organisation

  • Participates in and contributes to Departmental, Team and Project Meetings Department Newsletters Webpage
  • Communicates effectively and professionally andndash this includes both verbal and written communication andndash within and outside the team, department and organisation.
