OUR PATIENTS
The operating suite provides a comprehensive service for patients undergoing complex cancer surgery ranging from endoscopy through to specialised robotic surgery and complex multi-speciality cases. Our surgical specialties include colorectal, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, breast, plastics and reconstruction, urology, melanoma and sarcoma, head and neck, and gynaecology. Our patients also have access to high dose intraoperative radiotherapy (brachytherapy), and intraoperative chemotherapy (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy). We support patients from across Victoria, Australia and New Zealand.

As a nurse within the team, you will have access to a dedicated clinical nurse educator, practice development nurses and a team of clinical nurse specialists to support your development.
OUR FACILITIES
The operating suite is located on level 6 at Peter Mac and boasts eight operating theatres and ten PACU bays within our purpose-built facility. Peter Macs state of the art infrastructure also includes, intraoperative radiotherapy, two and three-dimensional laparoscopic equipment and the Da Vinci Robot. Peter Mac sits within the Parkville precinct and is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle or car with staff parking available onsite. Peter Mac also boasts great coffee and food at our multiple cafés.

At Peter Mac, we have the leading clinical cancer nursing education and research team in Australia. The Academic Nursing Unit currently offers 17 short courses ranging from introduction to cancer through to epidural and intrathecal infusion management, surgical and chemotherapy courses.
The Perioperative Clinical Nurse Education team also provide support and guidance to pursue postgraduate qualification in perioperative nursing.
In addition to clinical learning opportunities, you will also have access to our Compassion and Resilience Education (CARE), which is a full day course that focuses on wellbeing and selfcare for nurses.
Remuneration under the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024 will be for ANUM YW11 ($106,834.00 per annum) – YW12 ($110,432.40 per annum).

Position Summary
The Peter MacCallum Operating Suite is a dynamic and vibrant environment encompassing eight operating theatres and an extensive Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). The unit provides comprehensive anaesthetic and surgical services for patients requiring surgery for cancer. Care is delivered through an integrated multidisciplinary approach, utilising purpose built, state of the art infrastructure. The operating theatres are integrated to support intraoperative radiotherapy, 2-D and 3-D laparoscopic equipment, and an established Di Vinci Robotic program.
The Operating Theatre Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is a senior leadership position with considerable perioperative skills and experience. Utilising advanced perioperative knowledge, the Operating Theatre ANUM assists the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in the overall clinical management of the scrub/scout nursing staff with a particular focus of nursing staff within their sub-specialty. Sub-specialisation within the Operating Theatre ANUM team are as follows:
• Colorectal and Gynaecology
• Endoscopy
• Plastics
• Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and Hepatobiliary
• ENT/Head & Neck
• Breast, Melanoma & Sarcoma
• Urology and Brachytherapy
The Operating Theatre ANUM will support staff through clinical leadership, role modelling and mentorship strategies, whilst promoting personal and professional accountability for the Scrub scout nursing staff. This position requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
The Operating Theatre ANUM role operates Monday to Friday on a flexible rotating roster.
