Aboriginal Project Officer (VAD Navigator Service)
- Six month fixed term role (with the possibility of extension)
- Part time - 16 hours per fortnight
- $91,837 - $100,698 (pro-rata) + salary packaging + super

About the team
The Victorian Statewide Voluntary Assisted Dying Navigator Service is commencing a project to enhance access to voluntary assisted dying for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria. The project aims to strengthen equity of access, cultural safety, and informed choice, and to develop a culturally safe care pathway led in partnership with Aboriginal communities and organisations.
About the role
To support this work, as the Aboriginal Project Officer you will provide cultural leadership, guidance, and community connection.
You'll work closely with the VAD Navigator Service to support the design, delivery and implementation of this project.
You'll also provide cultural advice, support community engagement, and help ensure that the project is Aboriginal-led, culturally safe, and grounded in lived experience and community priorities.
About you
To be considered for this role you will need to identify and be acknowledged by Community as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Please articulate your connection to Country in your cover letter.
This role is well suited to someone currently working within an ACCHO, Aboriginal health service, community organisation or related healthcare setting, who is interested in contributing to system level change.

Key Accountabilities
- Provide cultural guidance and advice to the VAD Navigator Service throughout the project
- Support the development of a culturally safe VAD care pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Assist with building and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal-led organisations (e.g. ACCHOs, ACCOs, VACCHO)
- Contribute to the co-design of culturally appropriate information, resources and training materials
- Advise on appropriate approaches to community engagement, communication and resource development (e.g. artwork, video, written materials)
- Support navigator workforce development, including input into Aboriginal Cultural Safety training
- Assist with identifying key stakeholders and priority areas for engagement across Victoria
- Contribute to the development and implementation of culturally informed practice guidance to support Care Navigators in delivering culturally safe VAD services
- Establish and maintain formal and informal partnerships with Aboriginal-led organisations, including ACCHOs, ACCOs and peak bodies
- Support structured engagement activities (e.g. meetings, workshops, consultations) to inform service design and resource development
- Contribute to the development of a stakeholder engagement map and partnership framework to support ongoing collaboration
- Support the co-design and development of culturally appropriate information resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people considering VAD
- Ensure resources are reviewed and informed by Aboriginal stakeholders prior to finalisation
- Support the publication and dissemination of resources through appropriate service and community channels
- Contribute to the development of a culturally safe VAD care pathway/model of care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Support implementation planning and pilot testing, where appropriate, to inform statewide rollout
- Provide documented recommendations to support service improvement and future implementation
- Identify and document priority gaps and opportunities for future resource development (e.g. artwork, videos, community-facing materials)
- Contribute to advice and recommendations to inform future funding, policy development, or service planning
