The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is a world leading cancer centre with a dedicated infectious diseases service and research centre that manages infections in immunocompromised patients. The National Centre for Infections in Cancer (NCIC) Clinical Research Fellow will provide high quality oversight and care for patients enrolled in infection clinical trials, assist in developing studies and study conduct including protocol development, sponsorship and ethics applications, determining eligibility, screening, consenting, enrolment, co-ordinating and conducting study visits, and capturing adverse events.  The fellow will perform data collection, manuscript writing and participate in Infectious diseases unit education and team meetings and will participate in education and research in the field of infectious diseases.

 

YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE
 
This is a fixed term, full time (40hrs/week) position reporting to senior consultants in the team. The role is primarily conducting clinical research and assisting the clinical trials team in executing numerous investigator initiated and pharma trials. The position will iniatially be for 1-2 years with provision to renew subject to funding.This postion is for a Senior Research Assistant Level 11 role and does not attract CMEs or other clincal loading and allowances. The salary range is approximately $120K- $140K depending on overaward payments and qualification allownaces. The role allows for flexible working hours and wfh arrangements and does not include any weekend work or overtime. We will consider a part time role for the right applicant/s.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Medical Qualifications registrable by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  •  Fellow or advanced trainee of Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent overseas trained physician
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team setting

Desirable requirements:

  • At least 1 year of advanced training in infectious diseases
  • Familiarity with epidemiology, statistics and RedCAP databases or working towards completing relevant courses
  • Experience with submitting sponsorship, ethics and governance applications in a research setting
  • Familiarity with the pharma clinical trial governance environment
  • Familiarity with grant administration in the academic environment
  • Works with a patient centred approach to care

  • Effectively manages all delegated clinical trial activities
  • Completes all tasks and documentation according to the centre’s policies/procedures and GCP requirements
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits
  • Available to attend clinical trials team meetings, site initiation visits, investigator meetings and maintain good relationships with external trial co-ordinators and funders.

  • Readiness to take direction and willingness to learn from supervisor, other members of the team and other colleagues.
  • Work as part of clinical trials team within a busy Health Services research and consulting unit
