Fellow - Anaesthesia

Peter Mac is currently seeking three Anaesthesia Fellows to provide day-to-day clinical management of patients under the care and direction of the Directorate of Anaesthesia, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Medicine to ensure a high quality of peri-operative patient care. Clinical experience will encompass all aspects of anaesthesia and perioperative medicine — preoperative clinics, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, pain medicine rounds and postoperative duties. In addition, you will undertake administrative, teaching and research duties that will contribute to the effective running of the unit.

Position Summary
To provide for the day-to-day clinical management of perioperative patients under the care and direction of the Directorate of the Director of Anaesthesia, Perioperative and Pain Medicine.
To undertake administrative, teaching, quality improvement and research duties for the Unit under the direction of the Director of Anaesthesia, Perioperative and Pain Medicine to ensure that the Unit is run efficiently.

Essential Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent
- FANZCA (final exam) or equivalent
- Commitment to the values and health care philosophy of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Code of Conduct.
- Excellent skills and competencies as a clinician and good communication skills with patients, their families and colleagues.
- Registration with the AHPRA.
- Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Teaching commitment and skills in the areas undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
- Ongoing involvement with and encouragement of research
Desirable Requirements
- Computer skills - working knowledge of Windows environment including word processing.

1. The Fellow has responsibility for anaesthesia services, inpatient and outpatient perioperative services, teaching, and research and quality improvement activities. 1.1. Key performance indicators: Timely attendance at clinical sessions. Completion of anaesthetic and perioperative records Adherence to Hospital policies and procedures to ensure ethical care. Participation in introduction and evaluation of new technologies. Contribution to the management of clinical risk, including mandatory reporting. 1.2. Key performance indicators: Regular attendance at Departmental, Hospital and Specialty educational meetings and forums. Ongoing involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education including the coordination of weekly Unit meetings. Ongoing supervision and training of junior medical staff including education of registrar and resident in operating theatre. 1.3. Key performance indicators: Attendance and participation in Department and Hospital planning forums. Participation in development of Department Strategic plan. Contribute to the development of Units operational plan. 1.4. Key performance indicators: Presentation of papers at specialty meetings. Publication of findings/articles in specialty refereed meetings. Participation in approved departmental initiatives/ research. |

Key Performance Indicators: Completion of clinical records, anaesthetic records and outpatient letters in acceptable time frames. Maintenance of patient confidentiality and confidential information of strategic importance to the hospital. Participation in the development of clinical pathways as required by the relevant units. |
